Perry is Perry is a Chicago native birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as seen by flashback), her mother portrayed Jackie Harris in two of Perry's initial TV roles. She was not allowed to begin acting by her parents until adulthood, as they feared the strain it might create. Perry states that she did not want to perform in highschool but decided to start performing as a form of social interaction at Northwestern University when she switched to it from Boston University. Following her graduation, Perry relocated to New York to search for TV work, landing a few roles in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent however, her homesickness led Perry back home to California where she found acting jobs. She appeared on Broadway in The Other Place with her mother in 2013. The show featured her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 at The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. In 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family. She had a regular role in the ABC drama about politics Scandal that starred her dad. In addition, she played in the role of a younger Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon - a CBS spin-off of The Big Bang Theory. The role was selected by auditions, even the fact that she had a deep connection with it.
